Puzzle No. 4: Themeless (by Brooke Husic)

Updated: Jun 5, 2020

Beyond thrilled to share Brooke's work as my first full-size guest offering on this site! Her grids are breathtaking (look at that diagonal symmetry!) and her clues are as original (and at times diabolical) as they come. She's a stalwart collaborator and an all-around brilliant puzzle mind. And, if that weren't enough, she's generously designed some beautiful templates for this puzzle and future blog offerings — check out those pdfs!

Also, be sure to check out today's USA Today puzzle, "The Five W's," which Brooke made as well. For those of you still finding your puzzle-solving sea legs, this one is the perfect place to start.

From Brooke: "Having a back and forth exchange about a puzzle, as opposed to submitting it in one full piece and waiting for months, improves the end result so much. I'm so grateful for all the editing ping-pong Matthew played with me, and I can't speak highly enough about his talents as a creator and his overall support as a friend."
